About us

In 2002, AUB faculty from throughout the university came together to create a hub for nature conservation efforts. Over the past two decades, the AUB-Nature Conservation Center (AUB-NCC), the leading trans-disciplinary academic center in Lebanon, has established itself as a reference point for environmental research and conservation in the MENA region. We leverage the expertise of AUB faculty to tackle the most pressing environmental challenges including the waste crises, air pollution, water quality, and land degradation. Our goal is to promote the conservation of biodiversity while integrating socio-economic and environmental justice to enhance the well-being of people and nature. We provide an open, innovative, and collaborative platform based on research, education, community outreach, and knowledge dissemination.

Our mission

Our mission is to promote the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and enable people to become the guardians and beneficiaries of their natural heritage through research, education, community development, and knowledge dissemination. The center is committed to the transition to a more environmentally conscious world by integrating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our economies and the environment through resourceful innovation, research, and development.

Current initiatives

1. Environmental threats: Bringing citizens and civil society into the process of setting research goals, conducting science, and using evidence to drive solutions to environmental threats.
2. Biodiversity conservation: Awakening the power of unconventional collaborations, collective action, community heritage, and tailored data applications to conserve biodiversity.
3. Community development: Introducing eco-education and encouraging entrepreneurial innovation to support the growth of responsible, grassroots, and self-driven sustainable development.

Donations will be used to

1. Fund research
2. Pay for field expenses for community outreach and youth educational activities
3. Purchase needed equipment for field experiments and data collection for scientific research
4. Support the establishment of an endowment to sustain the center’s operating budget and administrative costs
