The FOCUS Fund

Established in 2015, the Focus Fund is the first if its kind in Lebanon to provide support for children and adolescents (up to 18 years of age) with mental health difficulties from underprivileged backgrounds seeking care at the AUB Medical Center (AUBMC). The Focus Fund also contributes to awareness and training activities organized by the Division of XX for parents and professionals. It cofunds research about child and adolescent mental health in Lebanon and supports the fellowship program in child and adolescent psychiatry that was started at AUBMC in June 2017.

We are asking for your support for the Focus Fund for children with mental health difficulties. At least 13 percent of children worldwide and 25 percent of those living in Beirut suffer from a diagnosable emotional, behavioral, or learning problem, including anxiety and attention deficit hyperactive disorders (ADHD).

Our children are our future. Ignoring their well-being is detrimental to them, their families, and our society. The Focus Fund works to:

  1. enable children to grow in a healthy school environment where they are included, respected, and protected by laws
  2. empower children to become self-advocates and participate actively in their care and in projects concerning them
  3. create collaborative dynamics between children and their peers at school and in the community at large
  4. promote positive parenting and provide parents of children experiencing difficulties with the needed skills to care for their children
  5. enhance parents’ knowledge and equip them with advocacy and empowerment skills
  6. raise awareness among community members regarding children’s mental well-being, emotional resilience, and quality learning
  7. understand the full scope of the problem and the specific needs of the community through funding research projects
